A trauma-informed nonprofit using storytelling, theater, and creativity to heal hearts and empower futures.
Program Rewrite is a nonprofit organization providing trauma-informed arts programming that empowers young adults, teens, childr, and underserved communities through storytelling, performance, and emotional expression.
Our Approach
🎭 Trauma-Informed
We don’t just teach theater or writing—we create healing environments. Our facilitators are trained to understand the impact of trauma on the brain, body, and behavior.
That means:
We recognize that trauma often disrupts trust, regulation, and expression. Our job is to gently rebuild those bridges through creativity and connection.
🌍 Culturally Responsive
Every child’s story matters—and we make space for all of them. Our programs honor the cultural, racial, and social backgrounds of the youth we serve. That means:
We believe that healing is most powerful when it feels familiar, affirming, and rooted in who you are.
Our workshops are opt-in, not forced. We never pressure kids to share their trauma stories or take on roles they’re uncomfortable with.
That means:
Empowerment starts with choice—and choice is healing.
We work hard to make every child feel seen, respected, and held in care. That means:
Safety is the foundation of self-expression. When a child feels safe, they can imagine, play, and heal.
"Rewriting the narratives and giving our youth a place to be seen.“ Dir. Billie King
